First up, can I just apologise for the substandard quality of some of these photos? My usual photo gimp (husband) was working the early shift this week so by the time I had got myself just about presentable he was halfway to Victoria. So most mornings this week I’ve been:
1. Balancing the camera on a loaf of bread trying to get the ‘angle’ right.
2. Trying to fix the terrible lighting in the kitchen as a result of the most god awful London weather imaginable this side of Christmas.
3. Skittering back and forth from pose to camera, stomping on cats’ tails by accident and making myself late for the train.
But without further ado – here’s the week from my wardrobe… scroll down for deets.
- Tuesday: So long seersuckers dress with modcloth cardy and gray wool tights
- Wednesday: Colette vintage violet with Mango cardy and Gap skinny jeans
- Thursday: Upcycled Monsoon dress (b4 blog) with cream Oasis cardy and gray tights. I cut about 7 inches off hem and added rick rack.
- Friday: Self-drafted polka dot top with Mango tulip skirt, black tights and modcloth cardy
- Saturday: Self-drafted Bright Eyes top with jeans and Mango cardy
- Sunday: Colette Peony with cream Oasis cardy and gray tights
Overall I played it fairly safe this week, choosing to wear tried and tested items I’ve worn countless times already. You see I’ve put on a few pounds (shh!) and I’m slightly worried a few of the outfits might not fit around the old waistline! I think it’ll take a trying-on sesh in front of the mirror before I’m comfortable plucking some of my more fitted items off the hanger in the early morning. That gorgeous teal ginger? Will it still even fit? Bites lip! I’ll let you know…
I also want to get cracking on a few other projects to help me ease my way through MMM and give me some variety throughout the month as well as flexibility.

Scout Woven Tee from Grainline Studios
I’ve downloaded this fantastically simple T-shirt pattern from Grainline, made even more glorious by True Bias and her oversized polka dots. As soon as I saw her version I just knew I had to have it. And how did I NOT get on with my Renfrew knowing MMM was coming up? Ack! Fail. What a perfect midweek item to sling on over jeans or skinny trews. Finally – I’ve traced out the Darling Ranges dress for my first wearable muslin. I would love to have this dress ready to wear for MMM… and to have two? Wowsers. It would be Milky Bars on me! *
*Not literally you understand – I am now officially ‘off sweets’. Sad face.

I really struggled with lighting this week too, but Joanne, your outfits are gorgeous! I seriously need to make more dresses…I practically live in them, but a few bad sewing experiences have left me scared of tackling them! I love that Grainline Tee…might just have to download that asap! Oh and if you have indeed put on a few pounds, I’m wondering where you’re hiding them!?!
Hahah once past 30 they tend to go on at the front! As you can see there are no side on pics there Marie!
Awww, I’m sorry you aren’t fitting your clothes like you wish… but hopefully it helps to have MMM as motivation! When I was living in Japan I was way to big for even the “L” or “LL” clothes available… and I used to live in fear of gaining weight and suddenly having NOTHING to wear! Eventually though, I figured that my clothes actually help keep me at one set weight, because it’s immediately obvious to me if I gain or lose any weight.
Regardless, I love all of your outfits this week… It was fun to follow the links back and read about garments you made before I started following your blog!
Awww, I love all your outfits (with the Violet being one of my favorites!). I’ve been debating making the Scout tee– it seems so lovely, wearable, and easy… but I don’t have anything in my stash that really works for it! Wouldn’t it be just AWFUL if I had to buy new fabric?!
I’m with you on the, erm, extra weight. I’ve suddenly put on a few pounds– just enough to make zipping up jeans a really suspenseful experience.
Oh oh and make a Renfrew!!! I JUST finished up a second one– they’re perfect for weekday wear!
Hello Joanne =o)
Just want to say that you are amazing. Being able to to wear beautiful clothes that you’ve made yourself takes talent and might I add some confidence, but having enough items and variety to take on Me Made Month is just incredible…well done!
And how great do you look even with dodgy lighting =o)
I love reading your blog as it always inspires me.
I couldn’t participate in MMM but I’d have no problem with wearing an op shop item of clothing or two every day…I don’t suppose that idea would take off though =oP
I’ve been lurking too long so it’s lovely to finally say hello
Kathy from Victoria Australia
Hi Kathy – thank you so much for commenting. It’s lovely to hear from new peeps! And you’ve just given me the blast of self-confidence I need to get on with sewing today – thank you so much
Lighting! Ack! My MMM photos are sooooo grainy. You’ve got a great variety of MM garments. Betcha get into that teal ginger just fine

Oh thank you thank you for putting a name to that which I so badly require: a “photo gimp”! It’s so hard taking a decent picture of oneself (you’ve do a great job). I tend to balance the camera on the top of my kids’ easel/blackboard, the height of which means that every photo focuses on the fattest part of me… And the light outside is uninspiring.
I’m sure your beautiful Sunday dress cheered everyone up. Everyone is under the weather I reckon.
Oh how I hear you on dodgy lighting! Nevertheless you are looking fabulous, and how much do I love that colour of Thursday’s dress on you? Keep it up, sista… you’re an inspiration!

Hehe I love the idea of you balancing a camera on a loaf of bread.
I feel your pain about the lighting. UK weather sucks at the moment xx
First of all thanks so much for the shoutout. I can’t wait to see how your scout tee turns out. It has been a go to for me. I’ve already made two and have 2 more in the plans. Its just such a great everyday top pattern that is flattering and on trend, plus very customizable.
Good luck!
No worries Kelli
I’ve enjoyed making my first one and definitely plan at least one more. Will pop up the completed post tomorrow!
