Here’s what I’m working on this weekend.
It’s a petrol blue polka dot version of New Look 6864, as used in my Maximum Awesomus dress. And I’m using calico covered piping! This version will be knee length or shorter and is lined in a rich magenta.
Although I can’t wait to finish it my beloved mummy is coming to stay with me for a week and she arrives today! We’re hoping to knock out a Violet for her while she’s here so stay tuned for progress reports.
Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Do share what you’re working on. xxx
This is looking fabulous- I love the piping. Such a great feature. Looking forward to the finished frock
Cheers Amanda – I really wanted to add piping to the top band as well but that turned out to be really tricky so sticking to the midriff band instead
I just love that shade of blue. It’s perfect!
I’m making a confirmation dress for my daughter. Fortunately it doesn’t have to be white (that’s next year). I like sewing for her but I desperately want to make my Thurlows!!
ooh selfless sewing – very good! You are a Good Mother!
LOL it’s not nearly as much fun as sewing for yourself! And I’ve doubled the work by altering the pattern as I didn’t have enough for the circle skirt. Ah the joys of motherhood.
beautiful x
Enjoy your mom.. mine is coming next week. yeah
awh bet you can’t wait! x
Lovely! Looks great in that fabric. Have fun with your Mum
Lovely fabric (I love polka dots!), such attention to detail. I’m running up a Violet too, inspired by your lovely versions.
Oh that piping in just one spot just pops! Love it. Want it, etc.
Oh what lovely work in progress! I love that the piping is off white and that you used calico… genius! I’ve never made my own piping. Do you have to cut the fabric on the bias?
I did cut it on the bias this time but actually I’ve made piping loads of times and never cut on bias so not actually sure if it’s worth taking the extra time!
Thanks Joanne. I suppose if you were piping round curves like on the yoke of your dress, bias would help to manipulate it into shape. I need to find a project to try some out!
What a classy-looking dress this will be when finished!
great fabric! this is going to be darling! can’t wait to see it!
This is looking gorgeous. The blue is such a beautiful shade, I can’t wait to see it finished.
So cute! I love that kind of … i don’t know what it’s called! Collar? Bodice band? The u-shaped thingy that is both straps and the top of the bodice. I have a couple of RTW tops like that, I think they are so flattering!
Now I’m bothered by this. Anyone know what to call that part of a dress?
I’d call it a yoke!
I’ll go with Sherry! Although I had no idea either!
Yay, mom! Hope you guys have a great time together! I love the looks of this dress!!
This is looking gorgeous! I bet it is hard to stop work on it and move onto some thing else, even if it is something for your mother! The piping looks so nice, and I like that you’ve used calico.
The fabric is lovely, and the piping looks great with it. Good luck with the rest of it, and have a lovely week!
This looks lovely! I have made this pattern up before and I really loved it. Your maxi dress version is such a good idea!
That looks gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it all finished.
Love the calico piping on it – such a good contrast.
Oh that’s looking so gorgeous, and perfect too!! So lovely… can’t wait to see it on!
I cant wait until I’m good enough to work on projects like this!! 😃😃
